Files you shouldn't open without scanning

.bat / pif / com / cmd
.vbs / vbe / vb / bas
.exe / msi
.pif
.bas
.com
.msi
.reg

For safer listening use media player classic, winamp or openvcl. Windows media player and real media player are unsafe due to possibility of macro use inside mp3 files.

The most common viruses are trojans that try to steal personal information, and zombie botnets which spammers use to compromise network servers and send out spam email through them without the user knowing (eating cpu and network resources).

You can also use process monitor to check and see exactly what a file does

It is good but you can't be completely safe with it, just like other anti viruses. I Reccomend it for scanning as it usualy does the trick and finds most mallicious files however when it comes to removing it's just O.K.

However it almost always tells you where they are so you can remove them yourself.

Well i use it and it's never served me bad, Told me when keygens have had Trojans it's told me where all bad files found were. Once i had 10 trojans avg deleted them, they came back BUT avg detected them again and told me where they were. I removed all 10. AVG Is an amazing free anti virus but i also highly recomend (Cant spell today lol) Avast Free

i like free stuff but when it comes to computer security software, i'd rather pay for it then get it free online cause again, it could have viruses as well and there are many of those anti virus/spyware scanners that do this *cough* winfix *cough* spy sheriff

I totally agree with this dude, except i use comodo personal firewall, and i also use winpatrol to monitor registry for changes, adaware for adware scans and i never have problems, i double check that these programs are doin their job by using online scanners every couple of months..

I've used ESET NOD32, Norton 360 2.0.. But I used Kaspersky 7.0. But the thing was all these false positives they gave. Is that fixed in the latest release of KIS?
